Payroll Specialist

 

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Payroll Specialist (Accountant/Fiscal Analyst II) in Payroll.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to: processing biweekly payrolls and serving as the primary backup for semimonthly payrolls; transmitting direct deposit files; preparing ACH remittances for biweekly payrolls and serving as the backup for semimonthly payrolls; ensuing proper taxation for student employees including international students; managing electronic timekeeping system and retroactive time submissions; validating system overtime calculations in compliance with FLSA and State regulations; transmitting direct deposit files and preparing remittances for vendor payments; serving as a backup to all processes related to payroll; calculating annual leave payouts, contract payouts, and leave without pay; entering and tracking FMLA and leave pool and other non-routine leave situations; entering sick family report and leave amendments; calculating wage adjustments as needed; entering non-benefit Payroll deductions including but not limited to garnishments, supplemental retirement, donations and parking; preparing reports as needed to reconcile and audit payroll; processing other essential information for processing payrolls and following up on incomplete or missing information needed for payroll processing; preparing/calculating ACA tracking spreadsheets; and entering required information on the State Retirement (PEBA) task list as needed. All of the above tasks require exercising discretion and independent judgment on a regular basis without supervision and performing other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements: A High school diploma and at least three years of related Payroll processing/taxation experience or five years tax/accounting/finance experience is required. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance and FPC certification through APA are preferred.  Equivalencies may be considered. A successful candidate should possess thorough knowledge of payroll regulations, policies and procedures; ability to analyze and interpret payroll data and reports; excellent excel and computer skills; organizational and time management skills; ability to work with numbers accurately; ability to communicate effectively and establish working relationships with others. Requires ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a regular basis.

Normal working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position may require some evenings and weekends.  Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
