The College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the School of Building Construction in Atlanta, Georgia.

The School offers a B.S. in Building Construction, an M.S. in Building Construction and Facility Management, a Master of Real Estate Development, and a Ph.D. in Building Construction. The School also offers a Professional Master’s in Occupational Safety and Health. The revitalized B.S. in Building Construction provides an opportunity to educate students who will be leaders in bringing advanced technology to the construction industry. The Master of Real Estate Development provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the development process from conception to finance and through to construction. The School benefits from strong collaborations with the Schools of Architecture, City and Regional Planning, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. The faculty have a robust research program that provides students at all levels with an opportunity to explore the major issues facing the construction industry.

The Chair will have the opportunity to build a School of Building Construction that leads the construction industry into the 21st Century. The new Chair will be expected to provide overall leadership and vision for the development of a comprehensive program of teaching and research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Chair manages academic, fiscal, and personnel matters and links the School of Building Construction to the strategic objectives of the College and Institute. The Chair will develop synergies among the programs within the School and create strong interdisciplinary relationships with other schools within the College of Design and across campus.

Candidates must have a terminal degree in Building Construction or a closely related field with a distinguished record of scholarly achievement that qualifies for a tenured position. The candidate must maintain an active commitment to the profession and to the promotion of excellence in teaching and research, and must have the ability to engage with community and corporate leaders and work effectively with faculty, students, and administrators. Significant experience in academic or research administration is desirable. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment is anticipated on or about July 1, 2021.
