The Department of African and African American Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor of any region of Africa or the African Diaspora in the areas of Art History, Environmental Studies, or Demography and Migration. Applicants in art history, anthropology, psychology, law, political science, sociology, geography, or philosophy will be considered; candidates with expertise in environmental studies may exceed this list by having qualifications associated with one or more physical sciences. Applicants can be either newly graduated Ph.Ds. or more advanced junior scholars. The starting date for the position is July 1, 2021.

Qualifications

Priority will be given to an innovative, energetic, promising scholar with evidence of publication, prior teaching experience, and the desire to be an engaged member of a growing, dynamic department. The successful candidate must be able to teach introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate courses, be capable of advising students, demonstrate a willingness to participate in departmental governance, and must be committed to being a highly productive scholar and supportive of the social equity and racial justice missions of the department. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. no later than June 30, 2021.
