Position Summary:

This position will aid Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) who are engaged in the care of patients in the ER and Critical Care Unit (CCU) of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The incumbent is not a Certified Veterinary Technician, he/she is limited to assisting in duties which require licensure by the State of Wisconsin. The work is performed under close supervision. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
2. Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment
3. Inventories and organizes supplies
4. Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
5. Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans
6. Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
7. Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions

Degree and Area of Specialization:

H.S. Diploma - Preferred Minimum
Desire to obtain degree in Veterinary Technology - preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic animal handling skills
- Knowledge of good client-relation principles
- Ability to follow written and verbal rules and instructions accurately
- Experience in veterinary hospital setting or referral practice with animal handling experience preferred

Additional Information:

English Proficiency Required - This position requires one or more of the following abilities: ability to speak, read, write, and/or understand verbal instructions in English Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform required tasks.

(38 hour week)

Will include Holiday and weekend shifts
Night and Weekend differential applicable on top of the base pay
