The Computer Consultant I position in Administrative Computing Support ( ACS ) in Information Technology Services ( ITS ) provides IT support to over 170 administrative users in various departments and divisions. IT support roles include desktop, laptop, smartphone, tablet, and application support. Additionally the role assesses and makes recommendations for procurement of technology equipment for staff. The Computer Consultant I work collaboratively with staff on IT projects as assigned.


• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus one (1) plus years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science as necessary.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Specialized knowledge includes a moderate understanding of networking, IT hardware, software and how it interacts with the operating system, printer and printing capabilities, cell technologies as they pertain the support client devices, and mobile computing platforms.


• Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SU’s systems and application software to resolve computing problems and provide consulting to students, faculty, staff, and other clients.

• Support and maintain departmental specific applications via participating in vendor conference calls and by following vendor provided documentation.

• Integrate vendor applications into SU’s computing environment.

• Provide IT support to University staff members.

• Perform software/hardware installation and troubleshooting on desktop PCs, laptops, smartphones, tablets and printers.

• Ensure the successful completion of assigned projects by setting objectives, recommending and coordinating resource, monitoring progress and reporting results to unit manager.

• Use documented procedures and good, independent judgment to provide quality services to clients.

• Manage hardware inventory of assigned area, plan upgrade lifecycle and replace aging equipment as necessary.
