General Description of Position

The Public Safety Officer works under the direction of the Security and Safety Coordinator, or designee, and will act as a resource for safety and security concerns at the assigned location(s) and provide for the safety and welfare of staff, students and visitors. The position is primarily responsible for monitoring behavior, visitors and visitor access, securing buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce safety and security policy and procedure to visitors, students, faculty and staff, and providing professional response to safety or security situations. This position will monitor the physical safety of campus buildings, visitors, doors, patrol or monitor using surveillance systems, respond to calls or emergency situations, and reporting suspicious behavior. Ability to deal with individuals and situations in a respectful, professional, calm, tactful and firm manner.

SCHEDULE
The hours and days of work for this position will be scheduled by the College and based on the needs of the campus activities generally between 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. working up to 29 hours a week. Employees may be required to work varied days and hours evenings and/or weekend hours and locations as needed to fulfill duties of the position and support campus events.

Hiring for 2 positions.
LOCATIONS :
One position in Lincoln, must be able to work at various locations as assigned.
One position in Milford, with Lincoln and/or Beatrice assignments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide physical security, personal security and crime prevention. Serve as liaison for law enforcement and emergency responders.
2. Conduct regular patrols of facility, check work and access areas, provide physical security presence at work areas, events, and deal with unruly or unauthorized individuals in a professional and appropriate manner.
3. Monitor visitors to building, assure visitors comply with entry and access processes, direct and “check-in” visitors.
4. Monitor and operate video surveillance equipment and security related technology.
5. As necessary, direct and/or perform tasks related to providing personal safety/security to staff, visitors and students, verbally de-escalate confrontation situations, and provide guidance and leadership in cases of emergency or crisis within guidelines and established procedures.
6. Implements college emergency/disaster response plans and procedures, and strictly complies with all established procedures, plans, and processes in a safe, responsible and professional manner.
7. Responds, reports and documents safety and security issues which occur on campuses. As required and appropriate, assist in the timely review and investigation of safety and security issues, concerns, or recommendations.
8. Facilitates workplace safety by evaluating workplace security and safety and providing recommendations to the Security and Safety Coordinator.
9. Communicate and partner with campus Administrators to ensure proper security and safety measures are implemented as related to students, employees, facilities, and property.
10. Promote/Support the Organizational Environment through Goal 9 of the Strategic Plan: Promote and support the College’s organizational environment goals. Maximize operational efficiency by enhancing policies and procedures, staffing, and communication processes and practices. Enhance positive communication processes and practices, and maximize a positive and engaging organizational environment by encouraging input, reflective and transparent communication, and compassion and respect toward the views and ideas of others.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of six (6) months of work experience in a security, safety, law enforcement or first responder field OR an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Safety or a directly related field of study.
3. Must be able to successfully complete (and maintain) all required background checks, certifications, training, and verifications required for the position.

Desired Qualifications

1. One (1) year or more of security, safety, and/or law enforcement work experience.
2. Work experience as a certified Law Enforcement Officer or First Responder highly desired.
3. Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Safety or a directly related field of study.

Salary

$16.93/hr
