Associate Provost - Community Outreach and Economic Development

Position Category: Executive

Summary:
Utah Valley University (UVU) is seeking an Associate Provost - Community Outreach and Economic Development (COED). Reporting directly to the Provost, the Associate Provost - COED, provides outreach and collaboration with internal academic and non-academic departments, employers, community partners, and other higher education institutions to design and implement clear academic pathways to support student completion of meaningful credentials aimed at filling the workforce needs of the region. The Associate Provost - COED, oversees the programs of Concurrent Enrollment and Articulated Programs and Workforce Development, including Career & Technical Education (CTE), and collaborates with partners across Academic Affairs on academic offerings at multiple satellite campus locations across the UVU service region. The AP - COED also oversees non-credit certificate offerings at UVU including executive, professional and community education, which meet workforce needs and lifelong learning opportunities. The Associate Provost - COED also drives strategy and growth in community, professional, and executive education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Advance and increase the visibility of the community college mission on campus, within the community, and across the state through advocacy, coordination with relevant stakeholders, and effective marketing.
2. Addresses regional educational and workforce needs through the identification of relevant data and advisory board input to inform the review, assessment, effectiveness, and sustainability of current programs and facilitate the development of new community college degree opportunities in coordination with academic departments.
3. Develops and implements a coordinated plan for recruitment, increased access, enrollment growth, outreach, retention, and completion through data collection and analysis, coordinating with academic departments, supporting and shaping institutional student success initiatives, and facilitating student achievement in developmental education and certificate, diploma, AA/AS, and AAS degree programs.
4. Explores institutional and workforce partnerships to establish stackable degree options, reverse transfer and transfer agreements, and other strategies that support student completion and achievement of state-wide goals for a well-trained workforce.
5. Oversees and drives strategy for the departments of Concurrent Enrollment, Articulated Programs & Workforce Development (including Career and Technical Education), Executive Education, and Community Education, including acting as a liaison between and advocate for these entities with various campus entities, academic departments, educational leaders, and local, regional, and statewide communities.
6. Explores issues relevant to community colleges and collaborate with key stakeholders to propose and implement innovations and solutions to related academic, curricular, policy, and faculty issues.
7. Represents the institution at national, state, and regional organizations as assigned. Form collaborative partnerships with business and industry, educational institutions, and government agencies. Serve on campus committees as assigned.
8. Oversees budget development and monitors the allocation of resources.
9. Strategically engages with government, corporate and non-profit organizations for economic and community development.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a master’s degree in a related field is required. A doctorate degree is desirable.

The successful candidate must have strong integrity, a high level of energy and proven achievement, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal relationship and team-building skills. Proven ability to interpret and apply complex information, policies, and procedures. Equally significant qualifications include being highly collegial and consultative, having a non-hierarchical management style, the ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships, and demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity. Must be able to care personally for others, while at the same time be able to directly challenge others when needed.

Candidates must have seven years of recent, professional work experience in a related field within higher education in a strategic leadership role, including management of departments and programs.
