About the Opportunity:
The Life Sciences Testing Center (LSTC), Business Director will be responsible for the efficient, compliant general and administration (G&A) operations of our new COVID-19 testing lab on our Innovation Campus in Burlington MA (ICBM).

This senior position will report to the CEO of the Kostas Research Center with a dotted line to the Senior Vice Provost of Research. The role will be a peer partner to the Technical Supervisor of the LSTC as well as other G&A and Operations leaders involved in overall COVID-19 testing both in Boston and at the ICBM.

Primary accountabilities focus on leadership and oversight of day-to-day business and administration operations in support of the LSTC's spin-up and ongoing operational success. This includes effective communication and collaboration with our Boston campus COVID-19 Testing Centers as well as various functional stakeholders, such as Contracts, Finance, Procurement, and Human Resource Management, supporting Northeastern's Re-Opening efforts.

As part of this role, the incumbent will work with LSTC team members and stakeholders to analyze various operational metrics that index and demonstrate trends, areas for immediate operational adjustments, and opportunities for continuous improvements.

This role will have one direct report: a Manager of Supply Chain and Procurement, and one indirect report: a LIMS Systems Analyst. There will be additional dotted-lined (matrixed) resources associated with supporting the overall operational quality of the LSTC, such as Finance, Contracts and HR Management.

This is an 18-month term position with the possibility of renewal depending on funding and business need.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborating with HR Management and LSTC Peers to optimize organizational designs, staffing, and onboarding; this includes high-growth acquisition of full time and contract employees
  • Budget review and monitoring
  • Oversight of overall inventory, instrumentation and equipment procurement and ongoing service maintenance
  • Operational coordination and collaboration with our Cabot Testing Center and Huntington Testing Center in Boston
  • Prioritizing and leading the execution of ongoing operational improvements
  • Oversight of a metrics dashboard
  • Unequivocal demonstration of quality and compliance
  • Appropriate management and communication of escalations
  • Preparation and communication of status reports and metrics to senior leaders


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or above, with a focus on business and operations; MBA with a General Management, Supply Chain or Operations concentration preferred
  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare or lab setting required
  • Experience in setting vision and clear accountabilities for efficient operations
  • Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in communicating status to senior leaders
  • Effective, demonstrated communication skills in listening, addressing concerns or issues, and following through in providing leadership under high stress circumstances
  • Experience in continuous improvement of new or existing operations
  • Comfort and confidence in managing and reporting operational metrics related to large-scale budgets and broad compliance reporting
  • Comfortable with “rolling up sleeves” and working alongside team members
  • A natural curiosity to learn about processes
