Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Institutional Research (IR) supports the Director of Institutional Research in complying with internal and external reporting demands, administering and analyzing surveys and other assessment instruments, assisting in the analysis of institutional data and supporting the management of key data through various management tools.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director in the development of vision, mission, strategy and priorities for the IR office
  • Provides leadership in fostering a self-service philosophy for routine reporting needs of decision-makers through the development of standardized data retrieval tools and University dashboards.
  • Compiles, prepares, and analyzes statistical data submissions to comply with reporting requirements for state and federal agencies.
  • Provides data and statistical analytical studies to support campus decision making activity.
  • Develops and administers surveys; compiles, analyzes and summarizes survey data; presents results to appropriate constituencies.
  • Acquires, manipulates, develops, and maintains data sets, verifying accuracy and consistency over time, in the context of evolving requirements regarding reporting institutional facts.
  • Ensures that the data produced by the IR team is accurate, timely, and useful.
  • Uses business intelligence tools (such as CROA) to develop and deploy decision support products.
  • Prepares research findings in narrative and graphic formats (e.g. infographics).
  • Engages in professional development activity as appropriate
  • Serves as a member on relevant campus-wide committees and helps develop effective strategies with regard to the success of the University meeting its goals
  • Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation
  • Seeks to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity and respect seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; excellent computer skills; experience with database management systems and data analysis; experience working with reporting/querying tools; a working knowledge of statistical packages (e.g. SPSS); strong oral, written, and problem-solving skills; keen attention to detail; the ability to work in a fast paced environment and to work both independently and as part of a team.

Experience working in a higher education environment and with the Datatel Colleague ERP system is desired but not required.
