Northampton Community College (NCC) is seeking a multi-talented and seasoned executive to provide strategic leadership as the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 

Primary Function: Under the direction of the College President, the Vice President serves as the Chief Diversity Officer for the college, with responsibility for developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for furthering diversity, equity and inclusion by leading and coordinating efforts to create a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community partners.

The Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will collaborate with institutional leadership, academic deans, department heads, the College’s Committee for Diversity and Inclusion and caucuses that represent constituents from diverse backgrounds.  Together they will facilitate an integrated vision and shared responsibility for advancing institutional goals and for fostering and affirming a culture of equitable community on all NCC campuses.   

Responsibilities: (1) Engaging appropriate stakeholders, develops, implements, operationalizes, and measures the College’s strategic diversity plan, vision, and related goals.  (2) Conducts environmental assessments on a regular basis and develops action plans to address issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.  (3)  Researches, develops, and delivers training related to diversity and cultural competence to campus constituents; (4) Consults with student affairs to recruit diverse students and develop student facing diversity related programming for both residential and commuting students.  (5)  Collaborates with Academic Affairs and faculty representatives to further infuse diversity into the curriculum as appropriate.  (6) Works with Human Resources and Facilities to ensure appropriate access and accommodations for students and staff with disabilities.  (7) Forms and cultivates partnerships with community organizations that help further the College’s diversity agenda.  (8) In conjunction with Human Resources, proposes, develops, and deploys initiatives that broaden the College’s outreach to diverse, qualified candidates.  Proposes and/or develops employee programming, including employee developmental programs that help to cultivate and retain future leaders from diverse backgrounds.  Deploys and measures initiatives aimed at the promotion of diversity and cultural competence in the workplace.  (9) Chairs the College’s Committee for Diversity and Inclusion and acts as a liaison with various caucuses on campus that represent constituents from diverse backgrounds. (10) Performs other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by management.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Reports directly to the President and will serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet.  The VPDEI will collaborate with the Vice President of Student Affairs & Enrollment for student facing initiatives, the Vice President of Academic Affairs for academic programming initiatives and the Vice President of Monroe for initiatives related to NCC’s Monroe County campus. (2) Ability to relate well to people at all levels within the institution to ensure that a collaborative environment is sustained so that issues of common importance are addressed institutionally through teamwork and cooperation.  (3) Ability to serve as an ambassador of the College to all constituents, internal as well as external. 

Strategic Leadership and Goal Setting: (1) Articulates and promotes long-term vision for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that aligns with the overarching mission; (2) produces a visionary, collaboratively developed strategic plan that contributes to the institution-wide mission and vision to internal and external stakeholders; (3) Identifies and analyzes problems/ issues confronting the institution; (4) Recommends and implements appropriate actions in response to challenges and changes across the institution; (5) Makes effective use of institutional-level data and higher education trends in decision making and goal setting  

Institutional Advancement and External Relationships: (1) Develops and maintains community relationships throughout the region and communities of the main and branch campuses that foster Diversity, Equity and Inclusion;

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within a specified time frame, (2) responsibilities of the position have been carried out at a level consistent with performance requirements, (3) effective cooperative relationships exist with other members of the administrative team, (4) confidential aspects of the position are maintained.

Qualifications: (1) Education: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required.  Doctoral degree/study preferred.  Applicants must attach an unofficial copy of their transcript at the time of application confirming at least the minimum qualifications. (2) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: (a) Demonstrated knowledge, through experience, of laws and regulations related to diversity, equal opportunity, Title IX and related matters (b) sound and effective communication skills (verbal and written) (c) substantial administrative and program-building experience and demonstrated leadership as an innovator, collaborator, partner and catalyst in mobilizing leaders from institutional and community sectors around equity and inclusion goals (d) prior leadership and success in developing and implementing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives within a complex organization (e) An acute awareness of the current issues facing a regional, public community college and the ability to serve as a thoughtful leader on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. (3) Experience:  A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education and at least 3 years of experience in the areas of equity and inclusion required.  Proven experience successfully influencing senior leaders on matters of strategic significance is required.  Experience successfully managing projects, developing/implementing/measuring strategies related to diversity and inclusion required. 

Location: Position is located at Northampton Community College, Bethlehem, PA, and will also require occasional travel to the Monroe County campus in Tannersville, PA.
