Research Scientist



Job Description

The Research Scientist will help to develop and complete an economic impact assessment of the Virginia seafood industry in partnership with the Virginia Marine Products Board. This will be done through the use of IMPLAN modelling software and an analysis by parts approach. The position will also develop and maintain working relationships with key industry and agency stakeholders in the furtherance of the overall objective. The Research Scientist will work collaboratively within the research and extension program at the Virginia Seafood AREC, other ARECs, departments, and colleges within the Virginia Tech system. The position will be located at the VSAREC in Hampton Virginia. This is a two-year position, with the possibility for extension, contingent upon future grant funding.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in agricultural or applied economics or related field. Demonstrated experience with economic impact assessment and IMPLAN software. Demonstrated experience with data collection through surveys. Must already be able to work legally in the US.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated success in securing grant funding, as well as peer reviewed publications. Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in fisheries or aquaculture. Demonstrated experience with the analysis by parts methodology in IMPLAN. Demonstrated knowledge and research of food supply chains.
