  • Description

Suffolk University Law School invites applications for an entry-level tenure-track clinical faculty member to lead Suffolk’s innovative Accelerator Practice starting in the 2021-22 academic year. We seek candidates with strong academic records and a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Prior experience in clinical education is preferred, and at least five years of relevant civil litigation experience is required. Applicants must be admitted or eligible for admission to the Massachusetts Bar. Successful applicants will have experience in housing discrimination and landlord/tenant law. Additional experience in consumer protection, employment law, or other fee-shifting practice areas is preferred. Experience with legal technology and/or law practice management is preferred. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who can expand upon the success of the Accelerator Practice and help form a vision for its future.

The Accelerator-to-Practice Program (A2P) is an award-winning, first-of-its-kind three-year course of study and practice designed to prepare graduates to join or start sustainable law practices serving average-income individuals and families. The A2P Program consists of a specialized track of instruction that includes an expanded professional development and skills curriculum; career development and practice supports; technological training; supervised internships; and participation in a capstone, full-year in-house clinic, the Accelerator Practice . The Accelerator faculty member will have primary responsibility for leading and teaching the capstone Accelerator Practice. The faculty member will work closely with a Practitioner-in-Residence, who has primary responsibility for administering the three-year A2P Program and helping to supervise students in the Accelerator Practice.

Leading the capstone Accelerator Practice will include supervising students in housing and other fee-shifting cases, and teaching the clinical seminar. This faculty member will work with the A2P Practitioner in Residence (PIR) to manage the caseload and supervise students in the Practice. The faculty member will also provide academic advising to A2P students and help to shape and manage the 3-year curriculum for the A2P Program. The faculty member will lead outreach efforts on behalf of the A2P Program to the clinical community, the legal community, and potential funders. The faculty member will collaborate with the Office of Professional and Career Development on field placements and post-graduate employment initiatives. The faculty member will be expected to teach one non-clinical course in a related field, contribute to the Law School and community, and produce scholarship.

The Accelerator Practice is one of Suffolk’s 12 in-house clinics, and an important part of Suffolk Law’s nationally regarded Clinical Programs. Suffolk Law’s Clinics have been ranked among the top 20 such programs in U.S. News & World Report for more than a decade.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, list of references, and cover letter addressed to Professor Sarah Boonin, Co-Chair of Clinical Committee. All materials must be uploaded to Suffolk’s job posting website, http://jobs.jobvite.com/suffolkuniversity/job/oH7rdfwc/apply .

Suffolk University does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, genetic information, or status as a veteran in admission to, access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs, activities, or employment.

Suffolk University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. The University is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive faculty and staff who contribute to the robust exchange of ideas on campus, and who are committed to teaching and working in a diverse environment. We strongly encourage applications from groups historically marginalized or underrepresented because of race/color, gender, religious creed, disability, national origin, veteran status or LGBTQ status. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, service and/or experience, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
