Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

This position exists to provide support in lab research (molecular biology techniques and animal work) and to maintain laboratory supplies and equipment. Responsibilities include:
-provide technical support for extramurally funded projects
-Collect preliminary data for future research grant applications.
-manage colony of mice by DNA genotyping, daily animal welfare checking, and detailed record keeping.
-assist with organizing laboratory and lab records. Assist with the ordering of supplies, maintenance of stock solutions.
-provide assistance to other investigators in the lab as needed.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Detail oriented, highly organized, good math skills, prior lab experience required. Previous laboratory experience in cell culture and basic cell and molecular biology and biochemical techniques is essential. Must be able to perform standard molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA isolation, qPCR, Western blots, and transfection. Experience in protein expression and isolation also important. Must interact well with colleagues and be able to work in a diverse environment.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Masters degree (or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience) in life sciences
-Relevant laboratory techniques
-Experience with computer, scientific instruments
-Ability to troubleshoot problems and ability to interpret data
-Experience with animal studies
