Position supervises children while providing a safe, nurturing, responsive, and inclusive educational environment using developmentally appropriate practices. Assistant Teacher observes, documents, and assesses children’s behaviors in order.-to support and contribute to decisions regarding individual children’s needs in all domains of learning. Participates in required training hours, maintains CPR & First Aid certification, has daily communication with parents, and coordinates bi-annual parent conferences and parent reports. The ideal candidate has experience working in an early education center and holds a degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.

Qualifications

• An Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of early chlldhood education and teaching in age group.

• Understanding of child development and application into practice

• Proficient in Microsoft Office- Outlook, Word, Excel

Responsibilities

TEACH, OBSERVE, AND FOLLOW REGULATIONS .

• Supervise, care for, and teach children in assigned classroom. Actively engage in the daily activities with the children while establishing supportive relationships and implementing developmentally appropriate techniques of guidance and classroom management. Observe children and assess behaviors for documentation and portfolio preparation. Provide first aid/ CPR as needed. Maintain professionalism and problem solve with teaching team and full staff when issues arise. Assist the Head

• Teacher in training, mentoring and supervision of undergraduate student teachers and interns. Assure compliance with the NYS Office of Child and Family Services ( OCFS ). Syracuse University rules and regulation and accreditation standards where applicable.

PREPARE & PLAN :

• Assist Head Teachers with curriculum planning and documentation.

• Compile information and photographs for portfolios and evaluate using school’s designated assessment tools.

COMMUNICATE & ESTABLISH :

• Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with families.

• Daily communication with parents. Write bi-annual reports for children in home group; host parent/teacher conferences; advocate for children who require additional special services; attend IEP meetings, and meet with inclusive education partners, as needed.

LEAD & INITIATE :

• Attend monthly full stall meetings, weekly team meetings, and individual supervision meetings with the Head Teacher and Center Director.

• Attend and participate in ongoing professional development trainings, and center events. Stay current on best practices in ear1y childhood education.

ORGANIZE & ADAPT :

• Arrange/rearrange classroom to create a workable space supporting children’s learning; rotate out equipment and materials to inspire use of varying pieces, and to keep the room fresh and inviting.
