Desktop Systems Engineering Manager

Salary for Announcement: The starting salary for this position is $72,200. The final salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Client Services, the Desktop Systems Engineering Manager is an essential member of the Information Technology Services team. As Manager, you will oversee delivery of technical platforms that service our client computing environments, including development of system images for Windows and macOS computers; management of security and application packages; system administration of client device management solutions, printing infrastructure, and virtual desktop and application delivery solutions; and evaluation and implementation of new technologies and creative technology delivery mechanisms.


Duties/Responsibilities:
Staff Management and Leadership
As Manager, you will lead a team of three full-time Systems Engineers, providing technical and strategic guidance while encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring alignment with University needs and industry best practices.

Technical Leadership and Delivery
As a hands-on leader, you will guide your team in managing our client computing environment. You’ll be expected to independently complete technical projects while managing our endpoint environment.

Using your subject matter expertise, you’ll assess and re-engineer technology solutions and operational procedures, develop policy recommendations, and propose initiatives and investment for up to three years in the future.

Project Management
You will frequently serve as a project lead or project team member for department and University initiatives, managing technical and non-technical projects on an as-needed basis, and helping to scope projects that impact your team or our customers.

Other responsibilities as assigned
Occasional after-hours or on-call work and infrequent travel will be required for this position.


Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.
• 5 years of professional experience, with a focus on support delivery, customer experience or similar.
• Prior experience in a desktop engineering role, including:
o Administration of Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
o Administration of endpoint device management tools such as Microsoft SCCM, Jamf Pro, or similar
• Creation, deployment, and management of desktop system images, application packages, and software updates.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous professional experience in a higher education environment.
• Experience leading technical projects within a large enterprise.
• Experience working within the ITIL framework
• Experience administering virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V, VMWare, and Citrix.
• Experience with Microsoft mobile device management via Azure, Intune, and Autopilot.
