Position Summary and Responsibilities Reporting to the Library Operations Manager, the Janitor will work as part of a team supporting the operations of the library. The goal of this position is to provide an environment that is conducive to learning, teaching, and research by helping to maintain and monitor the facility.
The Janitor is responsible for janitorial duties in the library, primarily during the evening hours. Duties include closing and securing the Library, changing light bulbs, reporting maintenance issues, basic building maintenance and minor repairs on library equipment, occasional break-down after library events, and other duties as assigned.
This position is part-time (26.5 hours/week) during the academic year (32 weeks/year) and is not eligible for benefits.
While classes are in session*: Sunday-Thursday 8:00pm-12:30am, Saturday 6:30pm-10:30pm
During study week and semester final exams: Sunday-Thursday 9:00pm-2:30am, Saturday 8:30pm-12:30am.
* Schedule may occasionally be adjusted and hours may occasionally be increased based on the needs of the library.
- One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and care of
facilities in a similar environment.
- Ability to lift objects up to 75 pounds is required.
- Ability to work on ladders is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, including
understanding, speaking, reading and writing is
- Willingness to work overtime as available. (Overtime is
assigned according to seniority guidelines.)
- Must be comfortable communicating and working pleasantly and
tactfully with the public and with coworkers.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must be dependable and willing to work flexible hours in order to fill in for vacation and sick time for daytime janitor.
