Pacific University’s Registrar provides strategic leadership for
academic enrollment, records, and program implementation and
support services in a dynamic, complex, and innovative environment.
Possessing a thorough understanding of university policies and best
practices in higher education, the Registrar collaborates closely
with the Provost and academic deans across five colleges to bring
on board new academic programs as well as to ensure effective and
efficient support of all programs. Versed in laws governing the
release of student information, the Registrar also contributes to
the development of policies and ensures accuracy in practices and
compliance with regulatory agencies. A nuanced thinker with strong
communication and management skills, the Registrar supports a staff
of seven in the continJOB SCOPE:
There is budgetary and policy-making responsibility. This position
requires extensive decision-making. Mistakes/errors may result in
vulnerability to legal action; issues with accreditors; diminished
academic reputation; fiscal concerns; negative student experiences;
breach of confidential information, poor customer service.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervises Registrar’s Office staff (directly supervises Associate
Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Senior Enrollment Coordinator,
Enrollment Coordinator; indirectly supervises Registration Services
Coordinator, Records Specialist, multiple student workers)
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in higher education or
related field, with 7-10 years of progressive responsibility,
related experiences in student academic services, and in the duties
described.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to
work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse
community.
Extensive knowledge of integrated computerized student information
systems; experience with Ellucian Colleague is preferred.
Ability to:
o Organize resources and establish priorities
o Supervise, train, and mentor staff
o Develop, plan and implement short and long-range goals
o Plan and assess academic program policies
o Foster a cooperative work environment
o Maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality
Knowledge of:
o Organizational structure, workflow, and operating
procedures
o Registrar professional code of ethics, standards, and best
practices, including extensive knowledge of federal and
state laws, university policy and FERPA as they apply to student
records
o Student support programs and services
o Management principles and practices
Skill in:
o Examining and re-engineering operations and procedures,
formulating policy, and developing and implementing new
strategies and procedures
o Process planning and implementation
o Budget preparation and fiscal management
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment with multi-tasking and interruptions;
regular computer and telephone work required. May require hours
that exceed 8 hours a day and/or 40 hours per week during peak
periods
