This is a unique opportunity for a collaborative and committed leader with experience in doctoral level clinical psychology programs to serve as the Founding Director of Clinical Training. In this inaugural role, a pioneering spirit will serve as the Director providing leadership for the development of the PsyD program with major responsibility for developing and implementing a well-supported, high quality program eligible for APA accreditation. The Director reports to the Chair of the department of Psychology and the Dean of the College of Humanities, Education, & Social Sciences (CHESS), provides strategic academic leadership for the department and is responsible for enhancing its core missions of teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will understand the opportunities and challenges facing public universities in the current higher education landscape and possess the skills, leadership, and vision to advance the department in this complex environment.  

This position is a tenure/tenure track position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and includes an excellent benefits package.

Position Responsibilities:

Initial responsibilities:

• Develop curriculum, and course schedule for the MS & PsyD degrees
• Develop clinical courses not already in Purdue’s Graduate Catalogue
• Establish a clinic for training and providing therapy to local residents
• Write Graduate Student Handbook
• Recruit and hire additional clinical faculty required for a high quality PsyD program
• Submit proposal for new graduate program to Purdue University Graduate School
• Request approval for the new program from Purdue’s Board of Trustees
• Obtain approval for the program from the Indiana Commission on Higher Education
• Gain accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission
• Apply for provisional accreditation from the American Psychological Association

Ongoing responsibilities:

• Manage program’s day to day activities such as evaluating student and faculty performance, arranging meetings of program committees, resolving student and faculty complaints, advising and supervising students, and monitoring clinic and internship sites
• Establish and maintain contacts with local, state, and federal agencies for possible funding, training, and research opportunities
• Write the annual APA report and all other recurring accreditation reports
• Write letters certifying students’ readiness to begin internships and subsequently to certify qualification for licensure
• Review transfer credit applications
• Remain informed on accreditation and licensure issues
• Maintain own license to practice
• Regularly review and update program policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD from an APA accredited program.  
• Eligible for licensure in Indiana as an HSPP
• Experience teaching at the doctoral level as well as experience directing dissertations and supervising graduate students.
• Experience commensurate with eligibility of range at the Associate or Professor rank
• Familiarity with PsyD programs
• Evidence of resource generation in the form of successful grants and funding from federal or foundation sources.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Clinical Psychology

About the College

The College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences serves over 1,700 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students across a wide range of programs. In addition to the Psychology Department, other administrative units within the college include:

• History and Philosophy Department
• Political Science, Economics, World Languages and Cultures Department
• School of Education & Counseling

The College also houses the Community Counseling Center that provides quality affordable mental health and the Institute for Social and Policy Research, which uses social science and policy analysis methods to find solutions to educational, social, and health‐related challenges facing the citizens of Northwest Indiana and the Chicago metropolitan region.
