Position Summary:

The Department of Communication at Arkansas State University seeks to hire a full time, non-tenure track, Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication for our online Master of Science in Strategic Communication degree

The position is for a nine-month renewable contract with opportunities for summer teaching

The program provides a comprehensive foundation for a successful career in a wide range of communication fields and combines theories of effective communication with practical application

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • The candidate will be expected to teach a 5/5 teaching load and engage in strategic communication service activities. Our online program is composed of two 7-week accelerated terms.
  • The curriculum for the MS program is comprised of core courses in: Communication Law and Policy, Quantitative Research Methods, Audience Market Analysis, Seminar in Strategic Communication, a Strategic Communication Management Capstone and communication electives in courses such as Social Media, Crisis Communication, etc. Current faculty are considering building a Global Communication track so an interest in this area would be beneficial
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge of computers and software applications

General Days/Hours:

Monday-Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Occasional weekends and/or after school activities as requested or needed

The Department of Communication offers several programs in communication: a BS in Strategic Communication, a BA in Communication Studies, and several certificate programs such as Health Communication, Nonprofit, Public Relations & Advertising, and Social Media Management. The department offers the online MS in Strategic Communication and a traditional MA in Communication Studies. The Department of Communication is housed within the College of Liberal Arts and Communication

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Terminal Degree (Master's Degree or PhD) in Communication or closely related field is required

A candidate who would teach Seminar in Strategic Communication, Integrated Marketing, and Advertising and Account Management is particularly desired
