Position Summary:
Serving under the Director of Research Compliance, the Assistant
Director shall assist in providing administrative oversight for the
Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use
Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and the
Radiation and Laser Safety Committee (RLSC) and shall ensure
institutional compliance with U.S. Federal and Arkansas State
regulations governing human and animal subject research; and
biosafety/security. The Assistant Director shall assist in
overseeing the University responsible conduct of research program,
export control compliance and the use of institutional resources by
external users.
The Assistant Director may also assist with coordination and
tracking of university sponsored grants and contracts.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists in overseeing the activities of the research regulatory committees (IRB, IBC, IACUC, RLSC) to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations. Will provide management of the IRB services and processes. Provides support for the compliance committee faculty chairs
- Assist in designing and implementing training programs, and administrative support of the electronic based record system, Cayuse IRB, for research compliance committees, all with the aim of coordinating committee transparency and communication
- Assists in strategic direction and supports the research compliance committees in preparation of reports to oversight agencies, renewals of assurances, and communications with accrediting organizations, as required
- Serves as a liaison with federal regulatory agencies and provides periodic updates and recommended actions to senior management as issues demand institutional response
- Assists the Director in implementation and management of institutional policies and procedures related to faculty conflicts of interest, responsible conduct of research, misconduct in research, export control, questions of publication review, and use of University facilities for external research partners
- Collaborates with University Counsel and Human Resources in management of the Conflict of lnterest reporting process
- Ensures compliance with export regulations
- In coordination with University Counsel, advises faculty and University administrators on regulatory requirements related to research
- Responsible for providing broad direction and coordinating research regulatory activities on campus to ensure consistency and enable compliant research
- Determines, communicates, and establishes an institutional training program; coordinating or conducting workshops and seminars on the use of human subjects in research, animals in research, radiation and lasers, recombinant DNA and other select agents, export regulations, and the responsible conduct of research
- Assists in management of long range planning projects to address both current and anticipated needs of the compliance program/requirements
- Coordinate with university counsel to provide prompt review of proposed sponsored grants and contracts
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experience working with academic records and related student
information software applications
Detail oriented, executive decision making skills, work
independently with follow through, excellent communication skills
(both verbal and written) and cultural competency
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration,
Social Work, Education, or a related field
