Job Purpose

This individual will present data at local and national meetings, mentor graduate students, and serve as co-author on publications. In addition to adhering to the policies set forth by TCH and BCM, the person must understand and act on the need for discretion due to the sensitive nature of research involved. This person will report to Tor Savidge, Ph.D. (Principal Investigator) and will be based in the Feigin Tower at TCH.

Job Duties

This individual will serve the Department of Pathology & Immunology and its research mission at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and Texas Children's Hospital (TCH). This person will participate in funded research projects and assist the laboratory in obtaining additional funding. This individual will design and conduct experiments in areas of systems biology related to microbiome discovery, as well as metabolite regulation of microbiota ecosystems. This individual will develop strategies for studying pathogen contributions to human health and disease in the context of host-pathogen interactions and will include COVID-19. This individual will perform biochemical characterization of microbial proteins and metabolites mined from unannotated genomes linked to functional omics biomarkers of infectious disease susceptibility. This individual should be proficient in separation chemistry techniques, protein and metabolite purification, cell signaling and research methods including microbiology and genetic manipulation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: MD or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications

A strong background in separation chemistry and protein/metabolite characterization is highly desirable. Applicants with previous experience in microbiology and genetic manipulation will be favorably considered.
