The School of Education is excited to invite candidates who will serve as a Content/Curriculum Designer with the Office of Strategic Engagement. The Office of Strategic Engagement seeks to develop curriculum for professional learning seminars and courses focused on equity, culturally relevant pedagogy, and antiracist educator practices.Curriculum Developers are responsible for the development of curriculum and training materials to be used by the training facilitators, instructors, and training participants. The Curriculum Developer will research, design, and develop engaging, relevant, and high–quality course content focusing on research–based instructional practices. The Curriculum Developer will work with administrators from the Office of Strategic Engagement and VCU faculty to illicit their expertise and input to ensure relevancy and accuracy of all training materials and content. The successful candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of the pedagogical practices that support a variety of learning modalities including face-to-face, technology-enhanced, blended, and online learning.
Duties:
Informed by a knowledge of current research and best practices in the area of racial equity, social justice, and culturally relevant pedagogy, the Curriculum Developer will develop high quality instructional content for delivery in an online, blended, or face-to-face format. It is essential that course content can be easily adapted to a variety of instructional delivery models. Essential duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
● develop high quality instructional content
● serve as a subject-matter expert for administrators and course facilitators, helping to create and refine course material for customized delivery
● design assessments to evaluate mastery of skills and concepts
● create learning objectives, activities, and course content
● write effective instructional lessons, audio and video scripts, reports, presentations, and course materials that need minimal editing before being integrated into the learning management system
● develop assessments to evaluate engagement and learning
Curriculum Developers contribute to the overall culture of excellence in teaching and learning at VCU through:
● Researching and developing content and resources that enhance instructional skills for faculty and course facilitators
● Contributing to institutional efforts to support high-quality programs and courses, such as the development of policies, quality standards, or other infrastructure to support students, instructors, and academic units
● Collaborating with other units on campus that support online courses and programs or the utilization of learning technologies to ensure instructors are connected with appropriate services
● Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- An advanced degree, or education and relevant experience that equates to an advanced degree, is required. An advanced degree in a discipline such as Curriculum Development, Organizational Development, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Learning, or a related field.
- Experience developing courses for online or blended delivery
- Comprehensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles such as Critical Race Theory and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Practice
- Demonstrated experience with a learning management system and a range of learning technologies
- Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating workshops or creating curricular resources for instructors
- Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to adapt and solve problems proactively and independently
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and teaming skills
- Proven ability to work as a contributing and collegial member of a team, and to communicate proactively within the team environment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree, or education and relevant experience that equates to an advanced degree in a discipline such as Curriculum Development, Organizational Development, Curriculum and Instruction, Soical Justice, Adult Learning, or a related field.
- Minimum three (3) years experience designing courses for online or blended delivery in a college or university setting
- Ability to produce learning materials to include facilitator instructor and participant manuals
- Online teaching experience in a college or university setting
- Experience using Blackboard, Canvas, and/or Articulate 360 in educational settings
