Oversees Houston Public Media (HPM) strategy execution of news on all platforms, ensuring collaborative and effective news coverage and marketing.

Job Duties:

  1. Develops and produces media for various projects in accordance with PBS Editorial Standards.
  2. Oversees and provides guidance to producers, reporters and digital staff.
  3. Coordinates media distribution and promotion across all platforms.
  4. Develops producers for succession roles within HPM.
  5. Understands brands and manages news so products are consistent with brands.
  6. Sets coverage expectations well in advance.
  7. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Bachelors and 5 years experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Additional Information / Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) professional references required, please attach with application. Develops and procedures new programming content for radio, digital, and TV broadcast around the topics of social justice, racial equality and other pressing issues.

Works with partners within and outside of UH on programming, moderating, facilitating meetings with business and community leaders.

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years news anchor at a radio station in a major market, 5+ years, hosting radio/digital/broadcast TV programs including on-air talks shows, Sharp understanding of the role of media in society and the impact of programming on communities, Understanding and experience with marketing & promotion in relation to programming and the role of social media to engage audiences.
