Position Summary

Under direction, the Accountant, Grants Accounting & Reporting Services position adheres to generally accepted accounting principles and performs a variety of professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling complex financial statements, reports, and reports. This position will be working with non-financial aid grants which the College receives. This role works in partnership with the employees that are managing the grants and the office that submits the grants.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Grants Accounting

Performs fiscal responsibilities for grants and contracts including invoicing, Monthly Cash drawdowns/requests, assisting with budgets, reviews and approves payments and requisitions. Reconciles accounts and complex transactions. Summarizes financial positions. Performs analysis on grants and projects. Assists auditors, both external college auditors and fiscal reviews from funding agencies. Submits reports to funding agencies, as required.

Abides by federal, state, and other regulations regarding each grant. Completes necessary training to be knowledgeable on grant regulations. Collaborates with Grant Administration office, human resources, accounts payable, financial aid, financial accounting, and payroll to ensure that work is completed accurately.

Accounting Support

Ensures that College fiscal policies and procedures. Collaborates with College departments to determine the accounting for different types of contracts. Adheres to generally accepted accounting principles. Supports accounting department, as needed.

Other duties as required.

Attends all required department meetings and training. Works overtime, as required to meet workload demands.

Usual Physical Requirements

The employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer, frequently sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, detailed vision when focusing on computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

Typical office and classroom environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: grant management; advanced generally accepted accounting principles; fund accounting; general ledger management; accounts payable and receivable administration; graphical presentation of data; advanced understanding of how the College ERP system works; computers, software, including cloud applications, to include Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), accounting programs and software. Skill in: verbal and written communication; preparing financial reports; operating general office equipment working with detailed data; statistical data entry; application of job software including word processing and spreadsheets. Ability to: apply accounting principles; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts and general public; answer general and technical accounting questions; research and analyze financial issues; perform detailed work with numerical data; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records; read and comprehend technical information; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; problem solve effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree in Accounting or closely related field of study with at least one year of accounting experience. Strong attention to detail. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
