Overview

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution, CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has one of the most diverse student populations of any university in the Inland Empire, and the second highest Hispanic enrollment of all public universities in California. CSUSB employs 467 full-time faculty and offers 48 undergraduate, 35 graduate, and one doctoral degree programs and 14 academic programs with national accreditation.

JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Public Administration at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) seeks an innovative and passionate educator to join our NASPAA (Network of Schools of Public Affairs, Policy and Administration) accredited team as Department Chair and MPA Director with tenure and rank (Full or Associate Professor) beginning either January 4, 2021 or August 15, 2021. The Department has a strong commitment to public service values, ethical behavior, shared governance, diversity and student learning.

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) is one of the premier graduate programs at CSUSB, with over 200 students, and one of the top MPA programs in the California State University system. We also administer an undergraduate concentration of approximately 90 students.
The Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration (JHBC), is accredited by NASPAA and AACSB, and consists of five academic departments: Accounting and Finance, Information and Decision Science, Management, Marketing, and Public Administration.

We seek a strong leader to manage our highly successful department in a dynamic environment with diverse faculty who are heavily engaged in service to the university and the community. While we are a teaching institution, Public Administration faculty are particularly active in their research areas.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in Public Administration or Related Field
  • Demonstrated administrative experience in working effectively with faculty, scheduling, and budgeting;
  • Demonstrated excellence in collegiate teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level;
  • A mature and developed research and publication record;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underrepresented groups;
  • Demonstrated commitment to community engagement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience as a government or non-profit practitioner.
Experience with hybrid and online instruction

Experience mentoring faculty
Experience with NASPAA accreditation

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
