About the College

Eastern New Mexico University – Ruidoso Branch Community College invites applications for the Vice President of Student Learning and Success, at the newest two-year institution in the state.  As a member of the ENMU system, the college offers transfer and technical programs, including dual credit, to serve local community needs via face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities. 

Ruidoso is located in the heart of the Sacramento Mountains and is a favorite recreation destination for tens of thousands of visitors every year.  Attractions include two million acres of national forest, the All-American Futurity (America’s richest quarter horse race), and the neighboring Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation with its spectacular Inn of the Mountain Gods and Ski Apache resorts.

Purpose and Scope

Reporting directly to the president, the Vice President of Student Learning and Success provides leadership, administrative oversight, and supervision for all academic and workforce programs, student success programs, the library, eLearning, and instructional technology.  This includes planning, implementation, and assessment of programs and services; and leadership for program review, accreditation, and professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide strategic, innovative leadership in the planning, implementation, assessment, and improvement of instructional programs and student success initiatives.
  • Develop, align, and oversee educational and student success goals, plans, budgets, and initiatives with College mission, vision, and goals.
  • Provide strategic direction in academic and workforce planning processes, and facilitate the development of programs of completion, degrees, and classes.
  • Provide operational direction for college academic, workforce, and student success programs, including leadership and supervision for academic and workforce departments, library, eLearning, instructional technology, and related grant staff.
  • Provide leadership for program review, assessment, faculty and grant development.
  • Revise and update curriculum in collaboration with the department chairs and president.
  • Provide leadership for development and delivery of annual class schedules.
  • Plan, develop, and recommend college educational and student success policies, procedures, and objectives for review by the President.
  • Lead continuous improvement and increase effectiveness of student learning and success through program review, regular review of best practices, and through feedback from student evaluations, internal users, and program advisory committees.
  • Develop and provide leadership for program advisory committees to improve academic and workforce programs, and to foster collaborative working relationships with businesses, industries, agencies, community organizations, and education institutions
  • Serve as College representative on, and actively participate in, various statewide, college, or local community initiatives, and attend events as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership for the accreditation process. Collaborate with the accreditation liaison officer and college stakeholders to develop systems and processes to meet accreditation standards, and ensures instructional commitment and implementation.
  • Lead professional development planning and initiatives for faculty and student success staff.
  • Perform faculty evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and licensing requirements, college regulations, board policies. Investigate and resolve requests and concerns.
  • Serve as a resource for admissions, records, and financial aid in order to ensure the delivery of quality services, compliance with applicable governmental requirements, the achievement of efficiencies, and ongoing collaboration among the colleges of the ENMU system.
  • Provide coordination, development, and support in eLearning.
  • Maintain professional and academic competencies and participate in professional development activities. Stay abreast of effective practices for community college student success.
  • Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team for student issues.
  • Oversee Title IX compliance, student discipline, and student handbook.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Knowledge, Skills, Experience

Required:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university in higher education leadership, or a related field, or an instructional discipline related to the college curriculum.
  • Three years experience teaching college-level courses.
  • Three years higher education administrative experience which includes the direct supervision of employees.
  • Consideration may be given for an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Experience in curriculum development and/or instructional design.
  • Experience in assessing and improving student learning, evaluating course efficacy, and/or academic program reviews.
  • Commitment to providing a high level of service and working in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with utmost discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills working with students, colleagues, staff, supervisors, and the community.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • High degree of professionalism.
  • Attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate degree in community college leadership or closely related discipline.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in mid- or senior-level college administrative positions, such as educational initiatives, FYE or other student success initiatives, institutional effectiveness, academic chair, workforce programs, dean, VP, etc.
  • Relevant experience in development and delivery of academic and/or career/technical education coursework and programs.
  • Knowledge of innovative, creative teaching and learning methodologies for community college students.
  • Knowledge of eLearning technologies, and experience teaching online and/or administering eLearning programs.
  • Leadership experience in college accreditation.
  • Experience and/or leadership for dual credit programs.
  • Experience in community colleges, preferably in a multi-college or multi-campus environment.
  • Experience teaching and relating to students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.

Complexity/Effort:

Job requires critical thinking skills, ability to meet deadlines, to work independently and supervise the work of others. Sets priorities and procedures for accomplishing work and resolves problems based on previous experience and knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.  Strong interpersonal skills needed, with ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with the college community.  Ability to gather and analyze data necessary for informed decisions.  Ability to lead, motivate and direct others.  Solid knowledge of office procedures.  The individual is expected to display personal initiative.  The position also provides guidance and resources to faculty and staff for professional development opportunities, for the development and implementation of effective instructional or operational strategies. The position receives general supervision from the President of ENMU-Ruidoso. The individual will have freedom within the guidelines of the policies and procedures of the ENMU system and ENMU-Ruidoso to execute the essential job functions.

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
