The Turner School of Accountancy in the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a Director/Department Chair to begin in August 2021. The new Director will be hired with tenure at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor. To be granted a rank of Professor, a candidate must be an effective teacher, have a national or international reputation within the discipline established by sustained publication of high quality articles in leading journals, and have a record of high quality service. Candidates who are currently at the Associate Professor level should, at a minimum, have a research trajectory leading to future promotion to the rank of Professor. Candidates should have a completed doctorate in accounting or a related field and must meet academic qualifications as described in the Belk College Policy on Qualified Faculty Status. The primary duties of the Director include internal administration of the Turner School and external engagement with industry partners and alumni. Internal administration of the School includes development of faculty and students, development and maintenance of instructional programs, and representation of the School as a liaison with other Belk College and University leaders. External engagement activities include holding Advisory Board meetings, being active in meeting with industry leaders and alumni to assist in development and student placement opportunities, and ensuring continued accreditation of the School by participating in AACSB activities related to accounting accreditation. 

Faculty who hold a Director/Department Chair position teach two course sections per academic year while they hold that position. They are also responsible for maintaining their academic qualification status for AACSB through research and professional engagement activities as described in the Belk College Policy on Qualified Faculty Status. Salary, teaching load, and other resources are competitive and consistent with other national research universities.

The Turner School is named for Mr. Thomas C. Turner, who helped establish the accounting department at UNC Charlotte, and is funded with an endowment of over $4 million to support students and faculty, with additional commitments already made. The School offers a Bachelor’s in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy, and also participates in the MBA, MS in Management, DBA, and PhD in Business Administration (Finance) programs. In Fall 2019, there were over 550 majors and pre-majors in the undergraduate program and 75 students in the Master’s program. The School currently has fourteen full-time faculty, eight of whom are tenured/tenure-track. The Belk College is accredited by AACSB and the Turner School also maintains AACSB accreditation under the accounting standards.
