Bard Early College New Orleans (BECNO), a partnership between Bard College and the Louisiana Department of Education invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the Sciences, teaching both lab-based and seminar style courses for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Candidates with expertise in any area of mathematics will be considered, but we are particularly interested in faculty able to teach Calculus I & II, College Algebra, and Pre-Calculus. We are also interested in computer science electives. We are seeking educators with a commitment to social justice, who are passionate about their fields of study, and interested in working to advance equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation. Candidate must show a demonstrated proficiency and interest in teaching high school. Candidates who will have a Ph.D. at the time of employment, or who are ABD, with high school and/or college teaching experience are preferred.
Bard Early College in New Orleans engages bright, intellectually curious students through a tuition-free, immersive liberal arts curriculum offered to students in the last two years of high school. By promoting authentic and supportive undergraduate opportunities, Bard Early College faculty and staff prepare students of all academic backgrounds for further college success. Across our network, the Bard Early Colleges enable talented and highly motivated students to complete a high school diploma alongside an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College. Our academic program emphasizes student-led learning in small seminar-style classes. We offer team-based intentional support for our non-traditional students, and a culture of collaborative pedagogical development for our teachers. We are looking for candidates with familiarity using participatory pedagogy, a focus on interdisciplinarity in their curricular design, and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diverse working and learning environments.
We are planning an in-person Fall semester with the possibility of going remote depending on CDC guidelines. The faculty member should be comfortable with teaching a hybrid course as some students may only be able to access the course remotely.
We also ask our adjunct faculty to allot one hour of office hours per course per week. The Fall semester begins August 2nd, 2021. A full-day orientation for adjuncts will be scheduled the week of July 26th.
