Research Assistant Professor

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science in the College of Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment to begin Fall 2020. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Research Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will be expected to set up a novel laboratory studying anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder.  Conduct behavioral experiments, including fear learning, anxiety-like, startle and pain behaviors, sleep, rodent PTSD models (SPS). Conduct molecular assays using PCR, rtPCR, immunohistochemistry (basic and fluorescence), western blot. Perform microscopy, confocal microscopy, stereology, and electrophysiology. Conduct survival surgery, including myocardial infraction, microdrive implant, capsule implant, castration, and ovariectomy. Perform Electrophysiology. Conduct terminal procedures, including intracardiac perfusion, decapitation, brain/heart/blood extraction.  Perform tissue sectioning (microtome and cryostat). Write protocols for IACUC approval.  Teach and mentor clinical and research trainees, including undergraduate, graduate and postdoc fellows. Serve as scientific member of an IACUC committee. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program that generates external funding or have current research funding as Principal Investigator. In addition to teaching clinical and research trainees, as applicable, serving on departmental and or university committees will be expected.

The Texas A&M Department of Psychiatry has a growing, collegial group of researchers applying molecular genomic, neuroimaging, and animal model approaches to trauma/PTSD, anxiety/depression, and substance use disorders. The new faculty member will receive a competitive package for salary and start-up along with laboratory and office space in the Texas A&M Health Science Center, College Station.

MINIMUM EDUCATION FOR POSITION:   PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience, Neurobiology, or related field.  PhD. in behavioral neuroscience, with an emphasis on sex differences in mood disorders, especially anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder is preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE FOR POSITION:  Forty-eight (48) months of experience at postdoctoral level or equivalent or faculty level in the following: behavioral neuroscience and animal model of neuropsychiatric disorders, using animal models of anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (single prolonged stress); and sex differences research.  Twenty-four (24) months of experience in each of the following: developing novel animal protocols and serving on IACUC committee, managing a laboratory.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Proficiency with SPSS and AnyMaze softwares.
