Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides leadership, supervision, and direction to the department of Student Activities and Wellness staff. Works directly in establishing a full range of activities for students and monitoring the co-curricular calendar. Develops policies for office personnel, maintains the department budgets and oversees the Student Activities and Wellness program. Markets and delivers on the program priorities, effectively assessing services and accommodations, strategically reporting data that indicate student engagement, which is consistent with the college’s mission vision, and priorities. Fast paced environment. Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate activities that do not occur within the regular work day (nights and weekends may be required).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage the operational, budget and personnel functions for the department. Supervise and evaluate full-time and part-time staff members. Assist in supervision of areas where students congregate (Bridge, lounge space, etc.).
2. Create, direct, manage, and assess co-curricular programs and activities for students. Coordinate the student leadership opportunities and secure presenters. Ensure seminars are assessed, evaluated and feedback is used for process improvement.
3. Collaborate, lead, and coordinate multicultural and social justice programming in conjunction with appropriate College departments, President’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities.
4. Develop academically-focused programming in collaboration with academic partners.
5. Collaborate with JJC Athletics to develop intramural sports programming, partner on team spirit events and programs.
6. Listen to student concerns and refer as necessary to appropriate departments and services. Serve as advisor for Student Government Association and assist college in gathering student opinions on relevant concerns or issues impacting them. Oversee and support the group’s efforts for programming and attendance at college committee meetings.
7. Lead and coordinate the annual Student Trustee selection process. Promote the role. Introduce the new student trustee at the board of trustees meeting. Serve as advisor to the Student Trustee.
8. Recommend and implement policies and procedures concerning duties of individuals who direct or supervise students in extra-curricular activities, specifically clubs as well as department procedures to be included in Board manuals. Oversee the revisions of position manuals for departmental staff and student workers.
9. Coordinate the nomination process and selection/interviews of the Student Speaker and achievement awards for Commencement and assist in ceremony.
10. Participate in the Orientation for New Students and First Year Experience of JJC students including serving on planning and evaluation committees as requested.
11. Prepare statistical reports tracking involvement numbers and events hosted by department and departmental achievements. Develop Annual Program Updates that are used for budget decisions.
12. Market the Student Activities’ programs and services to students, employers, faculty, and district residents. Evaluate effectiveness and improve as needed.
13. Participate in organizations and professional development activities to enhance programs and activities that are aligned with the department’s priorities and the JJC mission, strategic goals, and objectives.
14. Ensure compliance with Clery Act departmental responsibilities as identified by board policy 11.11.00 Clery Act Compliance.
15. Perform related duties as assigned.
