Assistant/Associate Professor of Political Science or Legal Studies. The Department of History & Political Science offers a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in Prelaw/Legal Studies and Liberal Arts, and a M.A. graduate program with a concentration in Political & Governmental Processes. The Department invites applicants passionate about teaching, research, and service to fill a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning in Spring 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching program curriculum in the area of Prelaw/Legal Studies, as well as updating the program by creating new courses. In addition, the position includes a responsibility to teach various courses in the larger area of Political Science. The Faculty contractual duties include, but are not limited to conducting scholarly activities in his/her particular field; developing and supervising interns and field experiences in the judicial field; developing classroom simulations such as Moot Court & Mock Trials; directing student research, field projects, professional papers, and theses; demonstrating proficiency in various modes of distance education; advising discipline majors/minors, and performing other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Political Science or Legal Studies. Advanced ABD’s within six months of completion of all Ph.D. requirements will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have strengths in one or more of the following areas: Tribal Governance/Law, Constitutional Law, Tort Law, Environmental & Natural Resources Law, or Civil Rights Law.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate must have a strong academic background, which includes teaching law-related courses at the university level; experience in teaching legal reasoning, written and oral arguments, and formal logic; an ability to do scholarly research and proof of that ability with Peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
