Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the AIDS Institute of the Department of Microbiology (Ref.: 502082), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree by research in immunology, oncology, cell biology, biochemistry or related disciplines, with an excellent publication track record. They should have a strong quantitative background, relevant post-doctoral experience in conducting and managing tumor immunology studies, and the ability to independently lead individual research project. Applicants who have demonstrated potentials of injecting new research ideas and exploring funding opportunities for enhancement of the Department’s research capabilities and strengths are highly desirable.

The appointee will participate in multidisciplinary research projects to study innovative tumor immunotherapeutics, with a particular focus on the characterization of anti-tumor T cells elicited by various approaches, including cancer vaccines, oncolytic virotherapy and immune checkpoint blockades. The projects will conduct both pre-clinical and clinical investigations with an ultimate goal of translating these cancer immunotherapies from the bench to the bedside. He/She will also participate in and/or develop significant independent and/or joint research programme(s); apply for external research funding; supervise postgraduate students and research staff; teach courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels; and provide service at departmental, faculty and/or university levels. The post offers an excellent opportunity to develop academically in the field of tumor immunology and immunotherapy.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
