African American Studies to support the undergraduate Ethnic
Studies major and minor as well as an anticipated minor in African
American studies, while contributing to department scholarship in
critical race and ethnic studies. We welcome applicants from
any discipline, but we are especially interested in scholars with a
record of training and research centered on African Americans in
the U.S. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies or a
related field, a strong scholarly trajectory, and experience
teaching on topics of race and ethnicity to a diverse population of
undergraduates. Candidates must demonstrate strong scholarly

accomplishments, works in progress, plans for future research,
connection to intellectual communities that will support a
productive research plan, and potential for success as a teaching
scholar. Candidates should also demonstrate strong teaching

American Studies and/or Ethnic Studies to a diverse population of
undergraduates, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and

course release each year for active scholarship and an additional
course release in the first year. Courses will include a mix of
lower division courses such as Ethnic Studies 5: Introduction to

Introduction to African American Studies; as well as upper division
courses in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will
also provide support to the department’s major by advising students
pursuing the major and minor, and by supporting students conducting
research in fulfillment of the Ethnic Studies capstone. For this
reason, the ideal candidate will have a record of strong teaching
as well as mentoring and support of undergraduate students.
Successful candidates for our faculty position will demonstrate
