STEM Coach/Student Assistance in Learning (SAIL) Program, TRIO Student Support Services Grant

Employment Status: Temporary, non-exempt, part-time (20 hours), non-benefited position through May 31, 2021 (position renewable based upon funding, availability of work, and satisfactory job performance).

Salary: $20.00 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Incumbent must be able to participate in remote or on-campus work depending on the directives from the CSUSB campus.

Typical Activities
Typical Activities
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Under the immediate supervision of the SAIL Director, the STEM Coach will coordinate STEM academic support services.
  • The incumbent will provide post-baccalaureate guidance to SAIL students and serve as an academic coach for SAIL students enrolled in STEM courses.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for offering STEM-centered academic, career, and graduate school planning workshops
  • The incumbent will conduct one-on-one support meetings designed to facilitate holistic student success and increased academic self-efficacy.
  • The incumbent will target and recruit potential new SAIL students, collect and interpret student performance data, assist with the planning and implementation of SAIL events, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in a STEM or other related field.
  • Applicants must be familiar with academic support services and have a familiarity with a variety of academic and non-cognitive intervention tools designed to promote the retention and academic success of students.
  • Applicants must have excellent organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment and demonstrate a high degree of initiative.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to develop a rapport with diverse students and co-workers and engage in collaborative endeavors with university staff and faculty to improve achievement and retention.
  • The applicant must have the ability to use a broad range of technology (Microsoft Office, Google applications, etc.) as well as online course management systems such as Blackboard.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing and executing academic interventions with high potential students enrolled in STEM classes.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • One year of experience working with economically disadvantaged or underrepresented college students is preferred and direct experience with TRIO programs will receive stronger consideration.
  • Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those of TRIO students is desirable.
