QUALIFICATIONS 

Doctorate in Music Theory required; ABD considered. Experience teaching music theory at the undergraduate level. Candidates must possess strong teaching skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to reach students from a variety of musical and educational backgrounds.

 

DUTIES 

Coordinate music theory curriculum with other instructors. Teach assigned music theory courses. Advise and mentor undergraduate majors and supervise tutoring program with university personnel. Actively participate in the work of the School of Music and other duties as assigned by the director.

 

RANK AND SALARY Rank will be as a lecturer, with the potential of promotion. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. 

 

DEADLINE   

Screening of applications will begin September 30, 2020, and continue until the position has been filled.   All candidates who are interviewed will be asked to prepare a 45-60 minute instructional presentation along with other activities determined by the search committee.

THE DEPARTMENT

The School of Music is staffed by 21 full-time and 45 part-time faculty members. It enrolls 280 students in curricula leading to the Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, Bachelor of Science in Music in an Outside Field, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Science in Popular Music, Bachelor of Science in Music Industry degrees. The school is housed in the beautiful Rhinehart Music Center featuring state of the art performance and rehearsal facilities. The school also offers the Sweetwater Music Center for its popular music and music industry degrees that features the latest in music industry technology and a full working studio. Faculty members enjoy collaborative relationships with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Children’s Choir, Fort Wayne Community Band, Voices of Unity and Believe in a Dream, and other community partners in campus residence.  The school and its degrees have been fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the American Music Therapy Association.
