Summary

The Medical Assistant II is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. Candidate must possess a proactive, team oriented attitude. Performs selected nursing and administrative duties using the principles of the team-based care of a patient-centered medical home, chronic care management models and quality improvement. It is the responsibility of this position to contribute to a patient centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first.

Job Duties

•Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment and determines needed services per practice protocol.
•Confers with physician regarding any incomplete patient tests/consults or other incomplete orders prior to patient visit.
•Prepares patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting area to the exam room and taking histories and vital signs.
•Prepares, cleans and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
•Contributes to timely and efficient patient flow.
•Gives injections; assists with EKGs, OB/GYN exams, etc. as needed; and provides other patient care services as directed.
•Prepares laboratory and/or imaging test results to be reviewed by physician and then contact patient with results per practice protocol.
•Performs medication reconciliation at each office visit, administers medication upon physician order.
•Coordinates care with disease management or case management programs.
•Conducts post-visit care in accordance with protocols of the practice.
•Responds to medication refill requests.
•Prepares/maintains clinical supplies and equipment.
•Triages and responds to patient communications.
•Assists with scheduling tests, treatments, pre-certifying patients for hospital care and/or procedures, and processing referrals to other providers.
•Creates, copies and files patient files, records and other information as needed.
•Maintains strict confidentiality.
•Treats staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood and/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
