Assistant Director/Dean of Student Life
The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College are accepting online applications for a full-time regular Assistant Director/Dean of Student Life position for the Office of Student Life.
Summary of Duties:
The assistant dean of students (COTC) and assistant director of student life (Ohio State Newark) is a full-time professional within the Ohio State Newark and COTC Office of Student Life, reporting to the dean of students and director of student life. The incumbent serves as an impartial facilitator in supporting, and in some cases resolving sensitive student concerns, and supporting the social development and retention of students. The position interacts with various campus departments, community-based agencies, faculty, staff, and student guardian/family members, and partners in the development and implementation of Convocation and new student orientation programs. The position is responsible for the direct oversight and management of student organizations and student food pantry, serves as the co-advisor to both Student Government and Phi Theta Kappa honorary society, facilitates opportunities for student leadership development, plans and implements signature events, and assists with student conduct and Title IX compliance. The position provides oversight and serves as the direct supervisor for staff in multicultural affairs, student involvement and recreation sports.
This position serves a diverse student population, including advocacy efforts and educational outreach activities, utilizing the ability to communicate directly, clearly and honestly with sound judgment and decision-making skills, working with confidential and sensitive student information and issues with a demonstrated ability and willingness to assume responsibility for complex situations with adaptive responsiveness and attention to detail.
Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, student personnel or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in programming or event planning; strong interpersonal, written communication and computer skills.
Master’s degree; student conduct and Title IX experience; three or more years of professional, full-time work experience in student life/affairs; supervisory experience; experience conducting threat assessments with knowledge and understanding of threat assessment and intervention techniques; serving on a multidisciplinary team charged with supporting students in distress, behavioral intervention or threat assessment; experience working with database systems such as Maxient; experience working with students who have experienced personal crisis and crime-related trauma, including sexual assault, domestic and intimate partner violence.
