The College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ) is an interdisciplinary and integrated academic unit that includes three professional schools: the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, and the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. The CHHS Business Core Services Team ( BCST ) is a common support unit that provides financial, budgetary, personnel, events, facilities, systems training and support, and reporting services to all CHHS units. The CHHS has a permanent operating budget of approximately $22M, approximately 175 permanent employees, and over 4,000 students.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

This position is part of the Business Core Services Team within UNCW’s College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ). The Director of Facilities and Events reports to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Resource Management and manages the facilities, events, space planning, and operational requirements for the college.

This individual is responsible for:
•Overseeing facilities and operations in all buildings utilized and occupied by the CHHS
•Managing all capital asset, fixed asset, and equipment planning, tracking, and reporting for the college
•Serving as the college’s primary liaison to UNCW’s Office of Facilities
•Ensuring appropriate planning, execution, and reporting of over 100 CHHS events annually
•Coordinating space management with appropriate university offices and committees
•Directly supervising two permanent staff responsible for operations and events and providing supervisory support for student and temporary workers

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Facilities Management, Business or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred

Experience working in a higher education environment in a facilities and/or operations management capacity is preferred

Experience managing staff and/or student employees is preferred

•Ability to work in a complex organization with responsibilities to various entities and stakeholders
•Knowledge of facilities matters related to maintenance and management appropriate for an academic unit
•Ability to compile, organize, summarize and analyze data related to space utilization and other facilities related matters
•Ability to use judgment to provide appropriate customer service to all stakeholders
•Ability to independently evaluate situations, ask appropriate questions, and determine appropriate courses of action related to facilities, operations, and event-related matters
•Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and discretion in dealing with a wide variety of administrators, faculty, and staff
•Ability to clearly and concisely convey information orally or in writing, using Microsoft Word or other word processing software as appropriate
•Ability to prioritize work tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, organize and adjust workload to handle multiple responsibilities
•Proficiency in the use of multiple types of software programs used for tracking and managing facilities, fixed assets, and equipment
•Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with campus partners
