Assistant/Associate
The Department of Education Studies at UW-Eau Claire seeks applicants for one tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associate professor beginning August 23, 2021. The department invites energetic, collaborative educators to help move the Teacher Education program forward and assist with significant redesign in light of broad-based licensure changes in the state of Wisconsin. Successful candidates will be qualified to teach foundational reading courses for the early primary grades, participate in research/scholarly activities, and provide service and leadership to the department, the college, the university, the community and the profession. Participation in high impact practices, such as immersion trips, would be encouraged. Successful candidates will have a strong interest in collaborative leadership and a demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE
- Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution by August 23, 2021 in reading education or a similar field; the ideal candidate would have a Master’s in reading with a doctorate in reading or a similar field
- Teaching certification in an area of education for grades PK-8
- Minimum of three years of full-time public school teaching experience with PK-8 students
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience including formal and informal reading assessment in PK-8 reading, especially in teaching emergent literacies in grades PK-3
- Commitment to teaching undergraduates
- Commitment to collaboration
- Evidence of teaching excellence
- Interest and/or experience in teacher preparation
- Commitment to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusivity
Licensed Reading Specialists, those with university teaching experience as well as clinical supervision experience, or those who bring diverse perspectives to the University or who have capacity to mentor and advise students who are members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in the institution's student population and in the field of teaching are encouraged to apply.
Duties: Teach courses as assigned in the Department of Education Studies; participate in research and scholarly activities; supervise students in clinical settings; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the university and community; and participate in department, college, and university committee work. Course workload would include foundational reading and early literacy courses and introductory, general methods. Salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.
