International Student Advisor
The International Student Advisor helps support international and global nomad students with their successful transition to and engagement at Grinnell College – on campus and in the local community. This position is located within the Office of International Student Affairs, with the goal of helping to support the successful engagement of international students and Exchange Visitors. This position supports compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), helping with advising, data maintenance, and document storage. They offer cultural and academic support and referral, to help students engage and thrive in and out of the classroom, and they serve on various committees and working groups. This position is responsible for specific community building and programming initiatives (like our Cultural Attaché Program; MOSAIC magazine; the Fischlowitz Travel Fellowship; and winter break programs). They help organize Friends of International Students (FIS) host family program; the International Pre-Orientation Program (IPOP), and they update our web site and social media. They also advise Grinnell’s International Student Organization and support student initiatives, including an annual Food Bazaar and Cultural Evening.
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with College students; exposure to international cultures, language and/or travel; and will offer creativity and positive energy. They will offer excellent written and verbal communication, technical skills, detail orientation, and the ability to navigate policy and regulatory nuance.
