Laboratory Manager



Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Wehrens Laboratory within the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI), directed by Dr. Wehrens. The lab utilizes numerous techniques from cloning and in vitro cell work, to the generation of mutant mice and surgical models of heart disease. The lab possesses state-of-the-art equipment and is actively involved in the development of innovative techniques and devices for heart research.

Job Duties
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of Wehren's Lab and assist PI
  • Consults with faculty to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
  • Prepares and puts in place equipment scheduled for use.
  • Demonstrates use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory.
  • Maintains research databases using scientific software.
  • Arranges service calls for equipment and orders laboratory supplies.
  • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and dismantle and repair equipment, applying knowledge of shop mechanics and using gauges, meters, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Confers with faculty periodically to evaluate new equipment and methods.
  • May serve as biosafety officer for the laboratory or department.
  • Supervises laboratory personnel in a variety of laboratory duties.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience Required: Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
