General Summary/Purpose

Under general supervision job supports departmental research programs and/or clinical trials with study data collection and organization through the process of recruiting and coordinating activities for one or more studies. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to:patient recruitment/ interviews, data collection, data entry, organizing collected information; records management, and communicating with team members on the status of project(s).

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the Division’s Senior Research Program Coordinator, faculty/principal investigators, fellows, and staff. We are a collegial division where personal and professional development is encouraged in an environment of mutual respect.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • General knowledge of the research and applies basic analytical skills to administer assigned projects, and to identify situations requiring special attention.
  • Using general knowledge will assist in developing recruitment tools for assigned studies, which may include protocol/study specific data collection forms, placing approved advertisements, and contacting physicians for possible referrals.
  • Develop basic tracking database/spreadsheet based on study requirements utilizing Excel, Access, or similar software applications.
  • Collect data from patient medical records and questionnaires, prepare and code data entry, enter and maintain databases. Monitors data quality and accuracy as required by research protocol. May run pre-established routine queries.
  • Act as primary contact for study participants, which may include scheduling, confirming appointments, and escorting/directing to various locations on/off campus.
  • Ensure that case files and accompanying paperwork are organized and current.
  • Clerical duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED required. 2 years related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline preferred. One year prior experience working in clinical research is preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent computer skills and organizational skills a must as well as attention to detail.

Knowledge of software, including Microsoft Word and Excel is needed.

Requires outstanding verbal communication and interpersonal skills with participants, Principal Investigators, and other team members.

Interest in working with mentally ill/disadvantaged populations needed.

Must be highly motivated, organized, personable, willing to learn, responsible, reliable, and efficient. Must be comfortable working with patient populations.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time

Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction

Finger dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm, for example, using a keyboard.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
