The successful candidate must have HR and leadership experience, preferably in a higher education or health care environment, as well as a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. A graduate degree is preferred as is an appropriate professional certification ( SHRM Senior Certified Professional or Senior Professional in Human Resources).
Additionally, the ideal candidate should have:

▪ Demonstrated knowledge of current HR best practices, experience in organizational behavior, employee/labor relations, compensation, benefits administration, performance management and employee development.

▪ Ability to build trust quickly and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and represent the university with external parties in a professional and ethical manner.
▪ Evidence of advancing institutional efforts regarding diversity, equity and inclusion.
▪ Demonstrated management/leadership skills to build a culture of teamwork and trust, and the ability to motivate, mentor, inspire and empower employees through both in-person and remote engagement.
▪ Proven expertise successfully leading organizational, technical and strategic transformations in human resources in efforts.
▪ Ability to think creatively and strategically, to build consensus and collaborate with others, and to articulate and implement HR programs that reflect university’s strategic plan.
▪ Strategic and operational problem solving and analytical ability to include data analysis, budget management and financial planning.
▪ Ability to foster innovative, inclusive and creative problem solving; active listening and communication skills; and a presence that engenders trust, confidence and respect.
▪ Strong interpersonal skills to allow for effective and positive communication with management across the university; demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience; the ability to deliver sensitive information tactfully and professionally; and conflict resolution skills.
▪ Experience with HR system implementations, business process improvements, advancing innovative initiatives and driving efficiency.
▪ Demonstrated knowledge with HR technology platforms. Experience with SAP, PeopleAdmin, SuccessFactors and state of Texas HR programs a plus.
▪ Evidence of effectively managing and leading others through change in in rapidly evolving environment.
▪ Demonstrated experience and knowledge of interpreting relevant state and federal law employment laws, rules and regulations pertaining to HR.

Preferred Qualifications

10 years or more of Human Resources and leadership experience.

Job Description

The next CHRO will inherit a dedicated and service-oriented staff with an appetite for modernization and continuous improvement. The new HR leader will be expected to aid in their professional development, leverage their expertise in shaping HR strategy, champion their needs for advancement and empower them to engage in HR-related issues across campus. Further, this individual will need to have a holistic view of HR efforts across the university and support the work of staff outside of the Office of Human Resources who are involved in HR-related activities. This ability to support central HR staff and expand HR expertise across the university will help to create more efficient operations and a seamless experience for employees. Job Duties

This individual will need to be engaged across the institution in understanding the key issues affecting Texas State’s workforce and collaborating appropriately to identify and implement solutions. This will involve understanding a broad range of employees (faculty, staff and student employees) working across a diverse set of units and divisions. The next CHRO should be able to work across these different groups and units to understand where different approaches are required as well as where common processes and shared technologies can be leveraged. The CHRO will work closely with the Office of Institutional Inclusive Excellence, which is now responsible for staff recruitment, as well as the Office of Faculty and Academic Resources, which is responsible for all aspects of faculty employment aside from benefits.
