A joint position between the Lucas and Belecki Labs within the Department of Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University is available for a research specialist with prior experience in the chromatographic analysis and characterization of organic compounds and reaction mixtures. Applications from enthusiastic and hardworking candidates with expertise in organic synthesis and in operation of Agilent HPLC software and hardware are strongly encouraged. The principal research focus will be on the characterization of reaction outcomes through HPLC and LCMS, in addition to other common small molecule characterization techniques ( NMR, GCMS, etc). Candidates with experience in light scattering techniques, such as MALS, are highly desirable. The successful candidate will also be expected to independently design, execute, and analyze experiments, to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, and to promote a collegial and rigorous laboratory environment. Periodic technical progress reports will be required. The appointment will be on an hourly wage basis, with a target average of 29 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

B.S. in Chemistry or related discipline.

Hands-on working knowledge of HPLC as well as experience in synthesizing and characterizing organic compounds.

Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience working in a research lab.

Must be able to work in a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline.
