Position Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University invites applications for a Research Professor position in the areas of

1) image and video rendering. Specific areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to: differentiable rendering, neural rendering, inverse graphics, physical simulation, and physics/3D-aware scene modeling.
2) vision and robotics. Specific areas include, but are not limited to: computer vision for robotics, computer vision for medical robotics and AI/ML for medical robotics.

The department has a vibrant research program in novel, leading-edge research areas, has a strong culture of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research with great national and international visibility, and is ranked #1 nationally in faculty productivity. Several faculty have strong national and international collaborations, as well as collaborative relationships in the adjacent Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical center complex and home to a number of top-tier medical research institutions. The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate courses and build a successful research program.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to research, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. Consistent with the National Research Council’s report, Convergence: Facilitating Transdisciplinary Integration of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Beyond, we are seeking candidates who have demonstrated ability to lead and work in research groups that “… [integrate] the knowledge, tools, and ways of thinking…” from engineering, mathematics, and computational, natural, social and behavioral sciences to solve societal problems using a convergent approach.
