The Program in Statistical & Data Sciences (SDS) at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2021. This is a named position funded in part by a grant from MassMutual. Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a closely-related discipline is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups underrepresented in STEM are encouraged to apply.

The position has a teaching load of 2:2 -- i.e., four semester-long courses over the academic year, though repeat preparations are common. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with a diverse group of students across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include introductory statistics or data science, as well as intermediate, advanced, and capstone courses. Other courses may be taught depending upon the candidate’s field of specialization. This is an open field search, and candidates from any field of Statistics and Data Science are encouraged to apply. Areas of particular interest include data ethics, algorithmic fairness, data journalism, machine learning, data visualization, and natural language processing.
