The group of Dr. Han Xiao in the Department of Chemistry at Rice University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to develop novel therapeutic strategies and innovative chemical tools that allow us to understand complex biological systems. Education Required

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate

Major/Discipline

Chemical biology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, or cancer biology

Education Preferred

Chemistry, biology, bioengineering, or related fields

Experience Required

No experience required

Experience Preferred Skills Required

- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, oral presentation skills, and a desire to develop these to a high level
- Knowledge of modern research of concepts and principles of biological systems and data collection/analyses using microscopy, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry, and transfection
- Able to purify/characterize enzymes and isolate/analyze DNA, RNA, proteins
- Skilled in writing scholarly papers based on ongoing research with accompanying supporting information using Microsoft Word and/or ChemDraw and managing the journal publication process
- Able to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision and direction

Skills Preferred Physical Demands

Requires working at a computer for extended periods of time (up to eight hours per day).

Working Conditions

- Receive annual safety trainings by the university, and will be supplied with personal protective equipment ( PPE )
- Shared office space (separate from the lab) and a work laptop
- Occasionally work evenings and/or weekends due to the demands of the research activities

- Maintain bacterial/mammalian cells and perform biomolecular purification to prove/manipulate biological systems and develop novel biological/chemical therapeutic strategies

- Provides academic services (ie. teaching classes) to the department as required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
