Open Rank Faculty Position in Bioengineering

The School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering (CBEE) at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, seeks to fill a full-time (1.00 FTE), nine-month, tenure-track position for assistant professor, associate professor, or tenured full professor in bioengineering, to begin September 16, 2021. The bioengineering program at Oregon State has experienced significant growth over the last few years. This growth is evident by a greater than twofold increase in undergraduate enrollment, and the establishment of an interdisciplinary bioengineering graduate program with strengths in the core areas of biointerfaces and biosensors, cell and tissue engineering, and bioprocessing. Bioengineering at Oregon State is headquartered in Johnson Hall, a state-of-the-art research and education facility that opened in 2016. The School of CBEE and bioengineering program faculty enjoy collaborations across the university and throughout the region, including Oregon Health & Science University, the University of Oregon’s Knight Campus, the Materials Synthesis and Characterization Facility, the Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing, Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Center for Research on Lifelong STEM Learning, as well as medical device, biopharmaceutical, and high-tech industries in Oregon.

The position requires a doctorate (by time of hire) in biomedical engineering, bioengineering, or a closely related field. Desired expertise includes any area of health-related engineering. Further, complementarity with existing activities at the university including, but not limited to, the core areas of biointerfaces and biosensors, cell and tissue engineering, and bioprocessing, or the College of Engineering’s signature research areas of artificial intelligence, materials science, robotics, or advanced manufacturing, is preferred. The candidate will be expected to articulate how their planned research program fits within the current activity in the school, college, and university. Duties include teaching, research and scholarly activities, and service. The successful candidate is expected to have the potential to develop, or have developed, a nationally or internationally recognized research program, depending on rank. The successful candidate must also have the academic preparation to teach introductory and more advanced courses in the bioengineering and CBEE undergraduate and the interdisciplinary bioengineering graduate curricula, and to develop new courses that serve these programs.
