General summary/purpose:

Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, the individual will be responsible for performing routine tests in a research laboratory and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies. The individual will be responsible for CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing and organoid culture experiments in a laboratory of gastroenterologic cancer research. He/She will perform lab functions including the above assays as well as additional lab procedures including PCR, DNA and RNA extractions, animal tumorigenesis studies, sample processing and storage, data entry, presentations of results to other researchers, and some data analysis procedures.

Specific duties & responsibilities:
  • Operate standard equipment, use standard procedures for specific laboratory tests and preparation techniques.
  • Perform CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing experiments in cell culture and organoids
  • Process tissue for qPCR and PCR, histology immunohistochemistry, and immunoblotting
  • Perform mouse tumorigenesis studies.
  • Identify and report problems in completion of routine lab processes.
  • Careful record keeping of experimental results and sample information to guarantee quality of experimentation.
  • Carries out routine equipment maintenance and upkeep.
  • Compilation of data and its presentation to other researchers.
  • Some data entry and data analysis procedures.
  • Ensures laboratory efficiency by following set protocols for lab cleanliness, organization, and safety regulations.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory): High School GED

Preferred qualifications: Training certificate from technical Institute or Bachelor’s Degree; Previous experience in research with CRISPR-Cas9 and organoid culture

Any specific physical requirements for the job:

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard

  • Handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hand or hands, but without finger dexterity

  • Ability to move about and sit and stand for extended periods of time

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
