GENERAL SUMMARY

The Associate Dean of Inclusive Teaching and Learning Environments gives expression to the Walden University mission and vision through the development of an inclusive teaching and learning culture purposefully imagined, designed, supported and delivered to ensure that learning is accessible for all students. To accomplish this vision, Walden’s diversity and inclusion efforts must be aimed at facilitating greater collaboration between the student and all facilitators of the learning process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Associate Dean’s goal is to facilitate University-wide faculty collaboration and professional learning to increase Walden’s capacity to implement pedagogical, andragogical and heutagogical strategies that promote student engagement and create positive and supportive learning environments for all.

Strategy Development, Implementation and Monitoring

  • Partner closely with academic and HR leadership to develop long-term and short-term operational and strategic plans to support the learning needs of all students, plans which are tightly aligned with the university’s strategic plans and include benchmarks, assessments, follow-up, and modeled accountability.
  • Engage in assessment of the university teaching and learning climate as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This includes the development of metrics, such as the Equity Scorecard model, by which to gauge success in areas of inclusive teaching and learning environments.


  • Faculty, Staff and Leadership Development and Retention

  • Develop recommended learning paths and content for faculty, academic staff and leaders at all levels.
  • Coordinate the development, dissemination and continual improvement of best practices to support leaders’ and faculty’s ability to create and sustain inclusive teaching and learning environments; coordinate the provision of reference texts, resources and professional journals for faculty.
  • Create and manage appropriate metrics to measure, analyze, and report progress pertaining to faculty development activities and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives


  • Internal and External Thought Leadership

  • Keep self and academic leadership up to date with current educational issues relevant to diverse learning needs, through networking, and membership with professional associations
  • Partner with the offices of institutional effectiveness and institutional research to integrate disaggregated data and an equity mindset into all internal research, planning implementation and assessment processes, including annual campus climate surveys, and development and tracking of success indicators;
  • Develop programs which encourage relevant, courageous and respectful campus dialogue and foster awareness and appreciation of the value of diversity and inclusion, and empowers individuals to take action in their respective roles.

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • MA/MS/MBA or higher degree in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, HR, Business, I/O Psychology, or another related field required; doctoral degree highly preferred
  • At least10 years of related experience and 3-5 years of management experience required; faculty experience highly preferred
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Change Management, or Project Management Certifications preferred
  • Seasoned experience designing, implementing, and evaluating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs
  • Strong ability to adapt to changing business activities and departmental initiatives
  • Must have working knowledge of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1991 Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other applicable laws.
